Bismillah. We begin everything with the name of Allah. We say Bismillah to initiate an act to acknowledge the intention and the ethics we carry with all that follows Bismillah.
As I shared in March 2023: One Work Deep Dive (Pt. 1 and 2), I will use the newsletter throughout the year for the usual shenanigans and deeper dives into individual works, projects, and series.
Third Up: My video work, commissioned by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), was screened in the lobby at Open Structure back at the end of 2022. Open Structure was a group exhibition curated by Grace Deveney at the University of Manitoba featuring the work of Ron Bechet, Jared Brown, Whit Forrester, Jennie C. Jones, Harold Mendez, Janelle Ayana Miller, and Derrick Woods-Morrow.
Quietly, I have made four video works since 2021, and it is slowly becoming a favorite format. I am in the middle of my first 15-minute piece and am excited to see how the ideas unfold over a longer chunk of time.
