Correction!

citation as "primitive hypertext"; citation as storytelling; retroactive citation after making a mistake

Hi all!

In the October 2022: THICC #002 issue, I accidentally left off the citation for Solmaz Sharif’s interview in the Paris Review. Eeek! This morning, I looked back at the newsletter to find a reference and noticed the caption was not saved. I was horrified. I love citing other artists to map my own “primitive hypertext” (Octavia Estelle Butler, 1998) and thinking about citation as its own form of storytelling. Citation is not an academic exercise: I do not cite to assert ownership; but rather, to assert relationality. Citation is making public who you are speaking to/with/alongside and in the language of poet Ross Gay, expressing to whom you are “bound in gratitude.” Imagine my horror when seeing that my citation was not saved! I am so sorry. Please excuse this mistake. And please read Solmaz Sharif’s brilliant work.
