Hello from Berlin! I have spent the last few days in a NyQuil stupor following a terrible cold which I am certain was caused by an unfortunate set of events over the past few days. I have been resting and unfortunately had to cancel some things. I am almost back to 100%.
I am here in Berlin for a few things, including a solo show with my gallery, NOME.
that is complete. and knowledge is another marks Janan Rasheed’s return to Berlin after her 2023 solo exhibition at KW Institute for Contemporary Art. With a mainly autobiographical focus on her middle name Janan, from the Arabic root JNN, meaning to hide or conceal, this exhibition explores Rasheed’s emerging relationship to Sufi cosmology and the poetics of both spiritual and political [un]veiling. The veil—a popular and overused trope concerning Muslim women is not the focus of the show. In an expansive work comprising a constellation of video, prints, and annotations, Rasheed, who veils or wears the traditional hijab, considers not the fabric of veiling but rather our relationship to concealment through the trickster archetype who challenges us to consider questions of intimacy, proximity, and certainty. What truth is available to us? What truth is concealed?Also, up in Los Angeles is my solo exhibition i want to climb inside every word and lick the salty neck of each letter at REDCAT. It features nine new video works which, for the first time, include my body. There are a few sculptures alongside an extended essay and publication to be out later this year. I am also part of a group show at MOCA Westport entitled It Will Go On. Finally, I have another solo exhibition opening at Ulises in Philadelphia. — the soft technology of your poems split — s My body into 18: secreting,100 Stanzas ——— That Bow TOWARD no moons. is a fun show that explores the relationships between choreography and play within the reading, writing, and publishing process. I created a game box and will release other games during the show's run. Thank you to Pioneer Works for the inaugural Working Artist Fellowship, which allowed me to spend the year studying play and playing.

Baby Reindeer (Miniseries on Netflix)
This series f***ed me up...in the best way. I made the mistake of watching it while on NyQuil, severely exhausted, jetlagged, and still reeling from a bad encounter days before. In one sitting, I sat through seven bizarre and jarring episodes. A story about stalking, sexual abuse, drug use, and sexuality could have easily taken a very familiar route, but this miniseries challenged me to sit with the complexity of how traumatic experiences cast a long and unexpected shadow. I will probably rewatch this in a month without NyQuil. Jessica Dunning did an amazing job. I was really impressed by Richard Gadd’s emotional range when acting in the fictionalized account of his own experience. I’d grown quite bored with TV recently, and this show reignited something…and left me wanting more — another British miniseries with complex characters? Here is the summary from Netflix:
Bose-Einstein Condensation, a state of matter only created in labs, occurs when separate atoms or subatomic particles cooled to near absolute zero, lose their individual identities, and form a “super atom” — a single quantum mechanical entity.
